TOKYO, March 23, 2011—Canon Inc. and Océ N.V. today announced the introduction of the first solution developed jointly by Canon and Océ—a new series of production-use multifunction presses incorporating an Océ printer controller.

Canon first announced plans to acquire Océ in November 2009, welcoming Océ into the Canon Group in March 2010. Since that time, Canon and Océ have worked to strengthen their client offerings by leveraging the two companies' excellent complementary fit in technology and product range.

Canon and Océ's first jointly developed solution builds on Canon's imagePRESS C7010VP series of color multifunction presses, which deliver high-quality, high-resolution imaging performance approaching offset printing while boasting high productivity. The models incorporate Océ's PRISMAsync front-end controller, realizing high compatibility with Océ's PRISMA workflow, which is well established in the production industry.

Océ's PRISMAsync software delivers high functionality through an intelligent job-scheduler feature, which enables users to calculate printing times, as well as predict the optimal timing to refill paper supply, consumables and other items, based on such factors as paper weight and size, and post-processing method. The feature supports the efficient processing of print jobs while minimizing downtime. In addition, newly incorporating an easy-to-use upright 15-inch TFT LCD full color touch panel, the model delivers seamless operations with PRISMAsync.

Leveraging their first jointly developed solution, Canon and Océ aim to provide improvements in product, service and solution offerings to such markets as those targeting CRDs (corporate reprographic departments) and commercial printing. The companies are also planning to incorporate PRISMAsync in Canon's imageRUNNER ADVANCE series of multifunction systems for office environments in the future.

The new solution will be displayed at the Graphispag 2011 International Printing Industry and Communication Exhibition in Barcelona, Spain, from March 22 to 26, and at the 2011 AIIM On Demand Exhibition in Washington, D.C., U.S.A., from March 22 to 24. Sales of the new models will begin in U.S. and European markets, followed by Japan.

The jointly developed solution signifies a first step for Canon and Océ as they further strengthen cooperative efforts in the technology and product fields. Aiming to create the No. 1 presence in the printing industry, the two companies will capitalize on their complementary strengths to offer high-quality products with exceptional imaging performance and a wide range of printing solutions.
